Our assessments are designed to help you revise, identify knowledge gaps for further study, and practise exam-style questions for areas you’re likely to face in the CII R01 exam.

It is appropriate for anyone studying for the CII R01 exam and also for identifying knowledge gaps as part of the regulator’s CPD requirement for advisers to maintain their diploma knowledge.

Assessment details

You can choose from these six assessment types:

  • 25, 50 or 100 questions delivered in revision style
  • 25, 50 or 100 questions delivered in exam style

Revision style allows you to view the answer after every question. With the exam style you complete all questions before seeing results, mirroring the actual exam.

Both styles include these features:

  • Total marks scored and percentage
  • Marks and percentage scored for each learning outcome
  • Incorrect answers listed with the correct answer, grouped by learning outcome
  • Printable results report
  • Benchmarking against other users’ averages
  • Your statistics and study time included on your personalised learning log/CPD certificate — view and print anytime

Questions per assessment

Each assessment includes the correct weightings and mix of standard and multiple-response question styles per learning outcome to match the actual exam. Selecting a 100-question exam-style assessment will mirror the real computer-based exam. The 50-question option is 50% of a full exam and the 25-question option is 25%.

Question bank

There are 300 questions in the database, with roughly 13% in multiple-response style to reflect the exam format. The system tracks which questions you’ve seen so they won’t repeat until you’ve worked through the full bank, ensuring variety in each assessment. Questions are written and regularly reviewed by subject experts with many years’ experience in training and exam setting.

Explanations and course references

In the revision style, an explanation and course reference is provided after every question, including the chapter and section location in our Online Course (available separately).

Timer

A clock shows the expected and elapsed time for each assessment — but you can take as long as you need.

Recovery feature

If you leave an assessment part-way through, the system returns you to the same point when you next log in.

CII R01 exam information

  • 100 questions across 11 learning outcomes
  • 87 standard multiple-choice questions (choose 1 of 4 options)
  • 13 multiple-response questions (more than one option is correct)
  • Pass mark: 65% (results given immediately at the end)
  • Time allowed: 2 hours
  • Credits on passing: 20
